Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is about to learn that fans are always watching every move you make on social media.

McCarthy won’t be active for the Vikings this Sunday due to a concussion. He’s coming off a brutal performance against the Green Bay Packers where he had just 87 passing yards and two interceptions. Overall, he’s completing just 54.1% of his passes this season for 929 yards with six touchdowns and 10 picks.

With McCarthy in concussion protocol, the Vikings will start undrafted rookie Max Brosmer at quarterback against the Seattle Seahawks. His coaches and teammates have expressed a lot of confidence in him over the past few days.

“I think there’s confidence in Max, and like I said, I’m excited to see him as a guy that I’ve been watching behind the scenes do a lot of work and continue to just make it about the stuff that’s important,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said.

Earlier this week, a Vikings fan posted a TikTok video where you hear an analyst say, “I’m telling you if Max Brosmer gets the start, we’re looking at a Brock Purdy situation.”

For some reason, McCarthy felt the need to repost that video and comment, “Let’s go Max.”

NFL fans thought this was childish behavior from McCarthy, who has clearly failed to live up to the hype in Minnesota.

“Either JJ McCarthy and Max Brosmer are homies or it’s motivation but either way, he’s being goofy as hell,” a fan said.

“JJM has some growing up to do. I’m not expecting great things in Max’s first start against a top NFL defense, but I am expecting more maturity,” another fan wrote.

Will the Vikings move on from McCarthy soon?

During a recent appearance on the “Hoge & Jahns” podcast, Dianna Russini of The Athletic suggested the Vikings could have a new starring quarterback in 2026.

“I think the question that we got to start asking. And this is going to get a headline… is J.J. McCarthy going to be a Minnesota Viking quarterback next season,” Russini said.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, meanwhile, said the Vikings could pursue Daniel Jones in free agency. That’s only if he fails to sign a long-term deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

There’s no question the Vikings will bring in some competition at quarterback this offseason.
