Takeaways from the Packers’ Thanksgiving Day win against the Lions

Pete Dougherty joins Dominique Yates to recap the Green Bay Packers’ 31-24 road victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

December football is almost upon the Green Bay Packers. And so is Bears Week.

After a road win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving to complete a sweep of the two-time reigning NFC North champions, the Packers are off until next Sunday, Dec. 7.

That’s when the Packers (8-3-1) play the surprising first-place Chicago Bears in a division showdown. The winner will have the NFC North lead with four games left.

Like the Packers, Chicago (9-3) already played in Week 13 and also had a victory on the road when it beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, an outcome that had everyone’s attention.

Now, the two rivals can enjoy some Thanksgiving leftovers on Sunday, Nov. 30, and monitor the crowded NFC playoff picture before their must-see matchup in seven days.

Here’s what to know about the Packers next game, standings and schedule.

And for Packers fans, there are some games to keep an eye on involving teams competing with Green Bay for playoff positioning. This includes the San Francisco 49ers (noon at the Cleveland Browns), Los Angeles Rams (noon at the Carolina Panthers) and Seattle Seahawks (3:05 p.m., hosting the Minnesota Vikings).

Plus,, Aaron Rodgers will return for the Pittsburgh Steelers after missing last week’s game against the Bears with a wrist injury. Rodgers and the Steelers play host to the Buffalo Bills at 3:25 p.m.

When is the next Packer game?

The Packers’ next game is Sunday, Dec. 7, against the Bears. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m. at Lambeau Field.

The game was originally scheduled for noon, but the NFL flexed it into the later slot to give the contest a wider audience given the status of both teams in 2025.

It’s the first of two matchups between the Packers and Bears over a three-week stretch in December. First place in the NFC North will be on the line in Week 14.

The teams will play again on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Soldier Field to complete the season series.

NFC North standings

The Bears remained atop the NFC North after their huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Ben Johnson’s team has won nine of its last 10 games after an 0-2 start. It’s the latest Chicago has been in first place since 2018 when it won the division. The Packers are 3-0 in division games after going 1-5 in 2024.

The division has flipped from 2024 when the Lions and Vikings were the top two teams. The Lions are in third and Vikings fourth. After going a combined 29-5 in 2024, the two teams have a combined 11-12 record with the Lions 7-5 and Vikings 4-7. Both are on the outside of the playoff picture, though Detroit still is just a game back of the seventh and final spot. The Vikings, meanwhile, are in 12th place in the NFC with a very difficult game at Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 30.
