Broncos vs. Commanders: The matchup
The Broncos go into the weekend in the No. 2 spot in the current AFC playoffs pecking order with a 9-2 record and with a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West Division. Denver is driven by one of the NFL’s most elite defenses, ranking No. 3 in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg), total yards (274.4 ypg) and rushing (88.5 ypg), No. 5 against the pass (185.8 ypg), and No. 1 in sacks (49) and passing touchdowns (9). That defense has traveled well, but the Broncos’ two losses this season have both come on the road, in Weeks 2 and 3 to the Indianapolis Colts (29-28) and Los Angeles Chargers (23-20).
Speaking of opposing passers, the Commanders will once again be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow), pushing backup Marcus Mariota back into the lineup for a tough assignment against the Broncos. Not only that, but Washington also lost quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard, who left for the head coaching position at Stanford. The Commanders are on a run of six straight losses in a season that quickly took a turn for the worse, but looking to spark a run in the second half with hopes of carrying much-needed momentum into the ’26 season.
