The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed wide receiver Adam Thielen after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings. Thielen requested his release out of Minnesota hoping to go for a Super Bowl one last time and the Steelers obliged by claiming him.
“Out of respect for Adam, we have agreed to give him the opportunity to pursue more playing time elsewhere,” the Vikings said. “Adam is one of the all-time great Vikings, and we wish him and his family continued success.”
Thielen has only eight catches for 69 yards on the year and did not play in Sunday’s loss to Seattle. Meanwhile, Minnesota is only 4-8 on the season and out of the playoff mix. He has been passed on depth chart by other Vikings wide receivers.
However, the Steelers have looked for help at wide receiver numerous times this season and Thielen, 35, could signal someone that can give them a savvy veteran who fits what quarterback Aaron Rodgers might want.
This will be Thielen’s last NFL season, and so he will hope to make one last run with the Steelers.
Thielen has spent most of his career with the Vikings. He also played for the Panthers in 2023 and 2024, before Carolina traded him back to Minnesota.
Thielen finished with more than 1,000 yards three times in his career, including in 2017 and 2018 when he earned Pro Bowl honors.
