It didn’t take long for Blake Grupe to find work. The former New Orleans Saints kicker signed with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on Tuesday, having outkicked some competition at a free agent tryout early in afternoon. Grupe tried out alongside Justin Tucker, who the Saints auditioned last week, as well as Maddux Trujillo, who participated at Colts training camp this summer. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported news of his signing.
Good luck to Grupe in his new spot. He’ll get to kick indoors for three of the Colts’ final five games, but one of those contests outdoors will be at Lumen Field against the Seattle Seahawks — the same stadium where he missed a long field goal earlier this year. But you couldn’t ask for a much better opportunity than joining an eight-win AFC playoff team in December.
