After waiving Michael Badgley, the Colts announced that they made a new addition at kicker.

The Indianapolis Colts are signing kicker Blake Grupe, according to Mike Garafolo.

Grupe is being signed to the practice squad, not the active roster. Garafolo said that Grupe impressed during his workout on Tuesday.

Colts’ special teams coordinator Brian Mason coached Grupe at Notre Dame during the 2022 season.

This move comes after the team announced that they had waived Michael Badgley.

Badgley’s missed extra point against Houston proved to be costly, and that was his third missed extra point of the season. Over the Colts’ last three games, Badgley had missed two extra points and one field goal attempt.

Grupe was with the New Orleans Saints up until last week when he was released. On the year, Grupe has made all 15 extra point attempts, but he was just 18-for-26 on field goals.

For his career, Grupe is 86-of-88 on extra points and 75-of-94 on field goals, according to PFF.

Assuming that Grupe will be the Colts’ kicker on Sunday in Jacksonville, he will have to be elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster beforehand.

“If we’re looking at the situation in Week 14, we’re looking for somebody that’s experienced, that we know can handle pressure, that we know can be consistent to be able to make kicks within games,” said special teams coordinator Brian Mason on Tuesday, via Colts.com.
