EAGEN, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Just one day after being placed on waivers, Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are on the hunt for the playoffs, signed Adam Thielen on Tuesday. While the Steelers are in a tight race with the Baltimore Ravens, the experience Thielen lends could be the boost they need after declining to make any deals at the trade deadline.
After spending years as rivals when Rodgers was still in Green Bay, this will be the first time the quarterback and receiver find themselves on the same team. No better time to head to Baltimore for an AFC North matchup as the Steelers look to jump above .500 and improve to 7-6, which would in turn drop the Ravens to 6-7.
On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings and Adam Thielen announced that the 35-year-old would not be finishing his twelfth season with the team.
In what Thielen has expressed will be his last season in the National Football League and given the recent struggles the Vikings offense has had, the Detroit Lakes native wanted an opportunity to pursue a larger role for a team that needs depth in the receiver room.
Kevin O’Connell spoke on the mutual parting in Monday’s press conference, expressing his gratitude to the time Thielen spent with the organization, “…Adam Thielen is a special person and a special player that has been a lot to not only this organization, but the career he’s had… I wish him nothing but the best.” is what O’Connell went on to say about his now ex-receiver.
