Former Tennessee and current Central Florida quarterback Tayven Jackson is expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2, On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Wednesday.

Jackson spent just one season at UCF where he started 11 games for the Knights. The redshirt junior quarterback completed 200-of-315 passes for 2,151 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Jackson added 85 rushing yards ad three rushing touchdowns.

It was a disappointing first season for Scott Frost at UCF. The Knights posted a 5-7 (2-7 Big 12) record, missing a bowl game and losing seven of their final nine games after starting the season 3-0.

Jackson’s two best games of the season came in Big 12 wins over West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Against the Mountaineers, Jackson completed 23-of-34 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and one interception Jackson then completed 16-of-25 passes for 271 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Jackson has just one more year of eligibility and is looking for his fourth school in five years. A Greenwood, Indiana native, Jackson signed with Tennessee in its 2022 recruiting class. He spent one year at Tennessee as a third string quarterback, completing three-of-four passes for 37 yards.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound signal caller was the first prep quarterback that Josh Heupel signed during his time at Tennessee. But his future in Knoxville became much more uncertain after the Vols signed five-star Nico Iamaleava a year later.

Jackson spent two seasons at Indiana after leaving the Tennessee program. He was an off-and-on starter during the 2023 season and then a backup during the Hoosiers’ run to the College Football Playoffs in 2024.

During his two years at Indiana, Jackson threw for 1,263 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. His stats were much better as the backup under Curt Cignetti then he was as the off-and-on starter for Tom Allen.
