GLENDALE – The Los Angeles Rams will arguably be the best team the Arizona Cardinals have played all year, thanks to quarterback Matthew Stafford and his weapons. Los Angeles’ offense has the MVP front runner in Stafford with his two greatest weapons in wide receiver Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. The Rams have the fourth best passing offense, fueling the team to the sixth highest scoring team in the NFL.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke with the media on Wednesday on how to apply pressure to Stafford, and what the goal for the secondary is against the dynamic duo of Nacua and Adams.

“[Stafford] is 17 years in, you ain’t tricking him. But you do have to effect him. If [Cardinals secondary] can cover two of the best that are out there. We are going to learn that quick.”

Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay is 3-1 vs. Gannon, averaging 21.5 points in those matchups. However, in the last two games, the Rams have scored a combined 23 points. Gannon and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis has done a stellar job limiting their NFC West rival’s scoring. Stafford has failed to throw over 200+ yards in his last two games vs. the Cardinals, while the Rams have fallen short of 300+ scrimmage yards in those games.
The problem for Arizona is that two of its starting cornerbacks from those games won’t be on the field, with Starling Thomas and Sean Murphy-Bunting being out for the season with injuries. A young secondary led by a 24-year-old Garrett Williams and a 23-year-old Max Melton will have to face off against a future Hall of Famer in Stafford.
However, since Week 6, the Cardinals secondary has allowed only 194.9 passing yards per game, which would place them top 10 in the league. Despite Arizona’s 3-9 record, Gannon and his team seem motivated to not drop another division game.
