Anyone who makes it to December in their NFL survivor pools must be doing something right. Hopefully you still have some good options left as the NFL regular season winds down. Here’s a look at the best options in Week 14.

First, we’ll answer some of your specific dilemmas before offering our picks for the week.

Week 14 survivor Q&A

Questions have been lightly edited for length and clarity.

Q: The past couple weeks, I am one of four in the pool and we still all seem to be picking the same teams and are all still in! I’m thinking the Bucs this week or Eagles. I’ve used Seahawks, Bills, KC, but still have Bears, Cowboys, 49ers. —Jennifer P.

Renee: You should go with Tampa Bay this week against the Saints. Philadelphia is on the road against the Chargers, and even with Justin Herbert’s broken hand, you won’t know for sure if he’s out until after your pick locks. Given Philly’s fail at home vs. Chicago last week, I can’t trust them.

Q: Buffalo, Browns, Dolphins? I still have Bears, but I’m afraid the bubble will burst on them. —Gary P.

Adam: I keep waiting for the bubble to burst on the Bears as well, but it just keeps growing. Beating Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in back-to-back weeks made me a bigger believer. Even so, this is the week to skip them on the road at Green Bay. I know the Bengals are not particularly good, and I know Buffalo will probably run the ball through them the way it did against Pittsburgh, but the Bengals do have Joe Burrow back, and he is capable of matching Josh Allen. I would skip them as well.

You’re in a weird position where your best bets are literally two of the worst teams in the league. I think both Cleveland and Miami will win, but I actually have a lot more faith in Miami against the Jets than I do Cleveland against Tennessee. The Browns’ defense will make life miserable for Cam Ward, but I could see Shedeur Sanders struggling as well. Ride with the Dolphins.

Q: I have CLE, Philly, JAX, HOU or Bears. Hmmmm. —Phil S.

Renee: Well, it’s definitely not Chicago, Jacksonville or Houston. I’ve already admitted I’m scared of the Chargers, even without Herbert, because of their strong defense and home-field advantage. That leaves Cleveland, which really feels like a dare. The Browns’ advantages include being at home and facing the Titans, who did not let Jaguars backers down last week, at least. I’m still afraid a win will find Cam Ward and Company somehow, but I doubt it happens in snowy, cold Ohio this week.

Q: Four entries remaining. Looks as if I’m down to either the Browns or Ravens as options this week. Gulp! —Liam B.

Adam: There is very little reason to believe in the Steelers right now, but they do tend to get going for these division games and especially for Baltimore games. This is a massive game for them, and you have to think they will be determined to have a better showing after that debacle against Buffalo. They need this win, and they need to show some pride. That is a significant combination and motivating factor. I would avoid the Ravens. They also have their own issues right now.

Of those two options, I definitely think Cleveland is your best chance for a win this week, which is a shocking thing to say. Like I said above, I think the Browns will ultimately win, I just think the wild card that is Sanders makes it closer than it might otherwise be. You might sweat it out a little, but I do think you can get through to next week with the Browns.

Q: Which one this week? I have Bills (vs. Bengals), Browns (vs. Titans) or Packers (vs. Bears). Thanks! —David W.

Renee: This is really tough. If Cincinnati hadn’t made Baltimore look like a Pop Warner team on Thanksgiving night, I would have said Bills, easy. But Burrow showed no rust, and even the defense seemed to rally around his long-awaited return. With 10 days of rest, I like the Bills at home but don’t fully trust them.

Then there’s Cleveland, with fewer concerns on defense than Buffalo, but so many questions on offense. I mentioned last week that I thought the Titans could break their losing streak, as they’ve played well against some tough matchups, but the good version of the Jaguars took care of them no problem. Can the Browns replicate that effort? It certainly helps that it will be cold and snowy in Ohio this weekend, but Sanders is still very inexperienced and inconsistent.

Green Bay looks good on paper, although after the Bears beat the Eagles, I feel like they need to be taken more seriously. Still, Jordan Love was a Thanksgiving hero, and he has heated up down the stretch of a season before. If it were me, I’d go Green Bay at home — the Packers have allowed only 13.5 points per game at home this season and have the 10th-best scoring margin there (eighth overall).

Q: I still got Packers, Seahawks and Ravens. Which for this week? —Woody D.

Adam: The Seahawks are the pick here. I think Green Bay and Baltimore will probably win their games, but they are both playing massive division games where anything can happen. Way too close to pick. Seattle is one of the best teams in the NFL, and Atlanta’s only win in the past seven games came against New Orleans.

Q: Tampa Bay, LA Rams or Philadelphia (esp. if Herbert is out) for Week 14’s survivor pick? —Hawkeyes P.

Renee: I would choose Tampa Bay at home over New Orleans because they’re one of the few teams we can still recommend. You’ll hear more about them below. Thoughts on Philly can be found above. The Rams are also viable here. Looking ahead, the next best option for LA is Week 18, when it hosts the Cardinals. If you want to save the Rams (assuming you think your pool will go the distance), that’s fair.

Q: I have Tampa this week with Week 15 Philly and Week 16 Buffalo. Is that good till week 17/18, where I have PIT, NYG, Dallas, JAX and ATL to choose from? —Leland A.

Adam: This, friends, is why you always take future value into account early in the season and want to try and save some top contenders for later. Leland, you should be in really good shape with this plan. Upsets happen in the NFL, but you have three outstanding matchups in your favor here. Great plan. Great process. Roll with it. I know the Eagles look terrible right now, but there is too much talent there, and Las Vegas (Philly’s Week 15 opponent) is mostly terrible. If your pool gets to Week 17/18 and still needs to make picks, you still have Pittsburgh against Cleveland (Week 17) and Dallas against the Giants or Jacksonville against Tennessee (Week 18). You gave yourself the best possible chance.

Q: If you had to choose between Miami/Cleveland/Buffalo/Philly, who would you lean toward this week? Gritting my teeth and leaning toward Buffalo because of various options in Week 15. —Josh D.

Renee: Yeah, it would come down to Buffalo and Cleveland for me here. I believe (Billieve!) that the Bills are the better team, but Cincinnati was terrifying on Thanksgiving. It’s a grit-your-teeth situation for sure. Picking against the Titans is a fantastic move, but as others have mentioned, it feels like they’re going to eke out a win at some point, but it’s probably not until Week 17 vs. New Orleans. I’d stick with the Bills as the more experienced and talented team with more to play for, too.

Q: Down to the end in our pool, thinking PHI, PIT, TB or MIA this week. Want to save PHI in case our pool goes to Week 16/17, which are sparse. Don’t trust PIT at all right now. Not sure I can trust the Florida-based teams. Is hurricane season over? Should I burn PHI this week to avoid Florida Man coming back to haunt me? —Chad C.

Adam: Sometimes you just have to trust Florida Man and take a chance. It might go poorly, but what an adrenaline rush it will be. This is one of those times. I would hold onto Philadelphia for that Las Vegas meeting in Week 15 and trust that Miami or Tampa Bay can beat two truly dreadful teams. If you are asking me which team you should trust more, I would say Tampa Bay just because it plays the Saints. The Buccaneers are the biggest favorite of the week. It is the best possible pick you have this week.

Q: Cleveland or Seattle this week? —Bill H.

Renee: The Seahawks. They’re showing out on both sides of the ball, with the league’s best scoring margin overall and second-best mark in road games. The Falcons might be the most meh team in the league, although they did beat Buffalo a few weeks ago. They’re coming off a loss to the Jets in which they totally outplayed them and still managed to lose the game. Seattle is truly one of the elite teams in the league and should get the easy win. Every person reading this is jealous of you this week, I bet!

Week 14 picks

Adam and Renee will avoid writing about the most-used teams from previous weeks to serve the largest number of readers. But where relevant, they’ll still advocate for or against a previously popular team because not everyone will have used them.

Highest percentage by week: Denver (W), Baltimore (W), Seattle (W), Detroit (W), Arizona (L), Green Bay (W), Kansas City (W), Indianapolis (W), Los Angeles Rams (W), Carolina (L), New England (W), Seattle (W), Los Angeles Chargers (W)

The table above lists the five most popular survivor picks for Week 14 from Yahoo, along with the percentage of picks for each team, and the point spread for each game from BetMGM as of Dec. 3.

Adam: Miami Dolphins over New York Jets

It might end up being a case of way too little, way too late when it comes to the playoffs, but the Dolphins have gotten themselves on a little bit of a roll in the second half of the season. After a 1-6 start, they have won 4 of 5 games and go into Sunday’s matchup playing some of their best football of the season. On one hand, the schedule has been extremely favorable over that stretch. On the other hand, that stretch of games also includes a big win over the Bills.

That recent stretch of success, as well as the fact that they are playing the Jets on Sunday, should make the Dolphins an attractive pick this week. Especially if you’re looking ahead and potentially trying to save teams like Philadelphia (vs. Las Vegas) and Buffalo (vs. Cleveland) in future weeks.

Miami is favored by three on the road at most books.

There are some bigger favorites around the league this week, including Tampa Bay (and Renee is going to talk about that), Seattle and Denver, but with all of those teams already being the most popular picks in previous weeks and teams we’ve already written up, my focus turns to Miami. Part of that is because Miami has been getting things together recently. A lot of it is because of the opponent simply not being very good and not doing anything particularly well. Even late in the season, it’s sometimes all about exploiting the correct matchup each week.

Renee: Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New Orleans Saints

The Bucs are the biggest favorite of the week, which is reason enough to trust them, but nothing warms my heart more than a team that makes sense. Tampa Bay tends to beat bad teams and lose to good teams. The Saints are a bad team. Simplicity!

The Bucs are relatively healthy with Bucky Irving and Chris Godwin back in action and narrowly lead the NFC South, which provides plenty of motivation. Meanwhile, New Orleans has two wins — over the Giants and Panthers — and lost by 20 points to the Bucs the first time they played. This time, the game is in Tampa, and the Bucs have their sights set on the playoffs. They are far from having the division locked up with Carolina close on their heels, and absolutely cannot afford to screw this easy win up. Greater talent, more experience and tons of motivation should drive Tampa Bay to victory this week. Use ’em if you’ve got ’em.
