Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow seems ambivalent about former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin taking over at his former college program.

Kiffin left the Rebels last Sunday to take the head coaching job at LSU, where Burrow played two seasons and won a national championship in 2019.

“I think he’s a good coach. I guess we’ll see how it goes. Those are my thoughts,” Burrow told reporters with a shrug on Wednesday.

Burrow was then asked if he could imagine his coach leaving just before the College Football Playoff.

The Bengals quarterback had a few questions.

“Is Ole Miss going to make the playoff?” Burrow asked, followed by, “Does the rest of the staff stay, or do they go too?”

After being told that No. 6 Ole Miss was on track to make the 12-team CFP bracket, and that offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. had rejoined the Rebels ahead of the postseason, Burrow concluded, “Certainly not an ideal situation for a playoff run.”

The Rebels promoted former defensive coordinator Pete Golding to head coach shortly after Kiffin announced his departure.

Golding and Weis are now waiting to learn their likely playoff opponent on Sunday during Decision Day, while Kiffin works on convincing LSU commit and early signing holdout defensive tackle Lamar Brown to come to Baton Rouge.

Burrow is meanwhile preparing to make his second start since returning from a toe injury against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday on the road.
