The Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare for their Week 14 matchup against the New Orleans Saints following their narrow victory over Arizona. Chris Godwin has played in two games after missing six weeks with a fibula injury. Will fantasy football managers have their veteran receiver available this week?

Chris Godwin Injury Update

Godwin looked healthy last week and had his best game of the season with three catches for 78 yards against the Cardinals. He led the team in receiving yards and displayed his yards-after-catch ability, including a 31-yard gain in the second quarter. Godwin also dropped what would have been an easy touchdown pass in the first half but otherwise looked sharp.

The veteran receiver was limited at Wednesday’s practice with a fibula designation. This naturally causes fantasy platforms to change his status from healthy to questionable, which always appears scary to managers checking injury reports.

There is no cause for concern here. Godwin just came off an extended layoff due to a fibula injury that kept him sidelined from Week 6 through Week 11. This is nothing more than maintenance on the first day of practice following a game. The Buccaneers are being cautious with their veteran receiver after he missed nearly two months.

Godwin is fine and at no risk of missing Sunday’s contest against New Orleans. The limited practice participation is standard protocol for players managing minor ailments, particularly after playing for just the second time since early October. Tampa Bay will monitor how his leg responds throughout the week, but his availability for Week 14 is not in question.

Godwin’s Fantasy Outlook

I don’t want to get out over my skis here, but was Chris Godwin’s Week 13 performance the most impactful three-catch showing of the season in terms of looking forward?

Week 15 vs. Falcons

Week 16 at Panthers

Week 17 at Dolphins

That may sound crazy and maybe it is. But the veteran receiver picked up 20+ yards in each of those receptions , was involved on the first drive, and dropped what should have been a touchdown.

He looked healthy and the Bucs need a stable WR2 in the worst way. Emeka Egbuka has run into something of a rookie wall and Cade Otton is only capable of so much. I like Godwin as a flex over the next two weeks and while there might be a Mike Evans return to navigate soon, Tampa Bay’s postseason fate is essentially going to hang in the balance when they face the Panthers.

We want our fantasy starters playing their most important games when we are and that certainly projects to be the case here!
