The Las Vegas Raiders are desperate to get back to being a contender in the AFC, which led them to hiring head coach Pete Carroll to lead the franchise during the offseason.

Unfortunately, the 2025 season has been more of the same disappointment for the Raiders. Once again, they are headed for a very high pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Contention doesn’t appear to be anywhere in sight.

Carroll is looking to build a new culture in Las Vegas. He has his work cut out for him, especially with the struggles that quarterback Geno Smith has been having this season. After trading for Smith and giving him a contract extension, the Raiders seem to have potentially dug themselves another hole.

With that being said, could Las Vegas consider getting extremely aggressive this offseason? Could the Raiders consider moving on from Carroll after just one season?

Pete Carroll, Las Vegas Raiders

On the outside looking in, that idea seems extremely unlikely. However, it’s an option that has now been suggested for Las Vegas.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has named the Raiders as one of the top ideal landing spots for Mike Tomlin if the Pittsburgh Steelers were to split away from him next season.

Tomlin and the Steelers have been struggling heading into the final stretch of the 2025 regular season. He has never produced a losing season during his NFL head coaching career. That could intrigue Las Vegas, who is desperate to win at a high level and get into the playoffs again.

Since taking over as Pittsburgh’s head coach back in 2007, Tomlin has compiled an impressive 189-112-2 record. He also won a Super Bowl back in 2008 in his second season with the Steelers.

Recently, Pittsburgh has struggled to win the big game in the playoffs. Fans have grown frustrated with the Steelers’ inability to make a deep playoff run. That could lead to the franchise parting ways with Tomlin.

Granted, it’s a long shot that Pittsburgh would fire Tomlin after the 2025 season. It’s an even longer shot to think that the Raiders would fire Carroll to bring Tomlin onboard.

However, crazier things have happened in the NFL and Las Vegas seems to be in a place where it would do anything to get back to being a playoff contender.
