Whether Pete Carroll returns to the Raiders next year or not, there will be a new offensive coordinator in the building in 2026, and Lincoln Kennedy has someone he would like the team to consider.

“I want us to go after David Shaw as offensive coordinator. David Shaw did a great job at Stanford. [He’s a] former Raider. He was a quarterbacks coach when I played with the team. I know what he could do with multiple tight end sets. I’ve seen him do it at Stanford,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.

“He’s helping out in Detroit right now as assistant offensive coordinator. So I want David Shaw. I’m just throwing my bit out there and I want this coach and staff. I want Pete Carroll to stay. I know that people are clamoring about having them out. I think he could build a program. I think he’ll want to respond by saying, ‘You know what? Last year was a disaster. Let me make up for it and see what I can do.’”

Shaw spent 11 seasons as the head coach at Stanford and was in consideration for a variety of NFL jobs during that time. His name hasn’t been on the NFL radar as much in recent years, but few assistant coaches in the league have a more impressive resume than Shaw.

There is still a lot that needs to be sorted out with the Raiders, and as of now, no one seems to know who is calling the shots within the organization.

Is GM John Spytek in control of the team or is it Tom Brady?

If Carroll comes back, will he have the opportunity to choose his next offensive coordinator?

The popular belief is that Carroll was not the one who brought Chip Kelly to Las Vegas, so it will be interesting to see if the decision makers in the Raiders’ building use the same hiring process this year as they did a year ago.

From the outside, it seems like Brady prefers to hire coaches and personnel people he has a relationship with, so that might not bode well for Shaw’s chances.

It might not bode the best for Carroll coming back next year, either.

Kennedy’s co-host, Q Myers, talked this week about Carroll’s chances of returning in 2026, and he thinks the team is going to make “every effort” to make it work.

“We’ve talked about the big decisions that they have to make at the end of the season, and I know the next handful of games are going to determine it. If Pete Carroll can be this guy leading the team forward. I think that the Raiders are going to try to give him every effort. This is just my gut feeling,” Myers said.

“Give him every effort to stay on as the head coach. I don’t think that they want to fire him. Again, just my gut feeling. I don’t think that they want to move on from him, but if they’re going to keep him, they’ve got to let him bring in who fits with what they that he wants to do.”
