The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to go above .500 for the second straight year against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, they may have to do so without Justin Herbert.

During his press conference on Wednesday, coach Jom Harbaugh announced that the quarterback would not practice because of the hand injury that he suffered during a 31-14 win at the Las Vegas Raiders last Sunday. Nevertheless, he had praise for his readiness and composure:

Thanks for the submission!

“That presence he has when he’s out there—calm, cool, collected. I’ve been very impressed. He comes to every meeting like he’s prepared to be the starter in every game.”

Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh told reporters that his QB Justin Hebert, who underwent surgery on a broken bone in his left hand Monday, will not practice today, even if he will be on the field for a walk through. The Chargers are not ready to say whether Hebert will be able to play

He also expressed optimism in Herbert’s prospects of being on the field come December 8 – a notion that the player reciprocated when addressing the media:

“It’s pretty early in the process. The plan is to prepare as if I’m going to play. I’m going to see how the next couple of days go and do everything I can to be out there for the team.”

Should Herbert be forced into the sidelines, the Chargers are expected to parade Trey Lance. The 2021 top-three pick’s last start was as a Dallas Cowboy – a 23-19 loss against the Washington Commanders in the final week of the 2024 season. He completed 20 of 34 attempts for 244 yards and no touchdowns.

On Monday, Harbaugh confirmed that Lance would get first-team preps in practice, at least in goal-line situations.

In more offense-related news, the Chargers’ ground game is seeing positive injury updates.

With Najee Harris out for the year because of an Achilles tear, the team has had to parade various running backs, who have had their fair share of injuries. But on Wednesday, two of them were spotted practicing again: Hassan Haskins (hamstring/IR) and rookie Omarion Hampton (ankle).

Jim Harbaugh had said about Hampton’s return on Monday:

“We opened his window, and we certainly wouldn’t have done that 21-day window if he wasn’t close. I feel like he’s been on track, and we’ll let the week play out again.”

And on Wednesday, he reiterated the good news:

“What can I tell you, he’s on track and looking good.”

Kickoff for the game against the Eagles is at 8:15 pm ET on ESPN/ABC.
