Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading into Sunday’s contest against the Houston Texans with their playoff hopes in the balance. They suffered a defeat against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day, dropping their record to 6-6 on the season. Simply put, the Chiefs must win Sunday’s game against the Texans to stay alive in the postseason race. They aren’t exactly facing elimination just yet, but another loss will significantly deplete their chances of securing a playoff berth.
The Chiefs released their first practice report of the week on Wednesday, and it revealed a new injury for Mahomes ahead of one of their most important games of the season.

Mahomes turned in another strong performance in Kansas City’s last game. The two-time NFL MVP completed 23-of-34 passes for 261 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also had three carries for 30 rushing yards, but it still wasn’t enough. The Cowboys held off a formidable challenge from the Chiefs to secure a 31-28 win at AT&T Stadium, extending their winning streak to three games.
Mahomes will need to do it all over again on Sunday against a 7-5 Texans side that is also fighting for its place in the playoffs. There could be a bit of concern surrounding Mahomes’ health, too, now that he’s popped up on the injury report ahead of Sunday’s must-win contest.

The Chiefs announced on Wednesday via their first official injury report of the week that Mahomes is currently dealing with a knee injury. This is the first mention of this knee issue, and it is unclear when the two-time All-Pro QB sustained the injury.
The silver lining, however, is that it did not prevent Mahomes from taking part in the team’s first practice of the week. The 30-year-old was listed as a full participant, and, barring any unforeseen setbacks, he should be good to go on Sunday against Houston.
It is worth noting that Mahomes was also on the injury report for all three practice sessions last week due to a groin issue, but he was able to play without limitations against Dallas.
