Patrick Mahomes: Chiefs must “prove it” in critical Texans matchup
Hi guys, fire away. Patrick, uh, Amy described it as tily toss on Monday for you just how do you describe it, just this team’s attitude try to get in the re run as you said, you gotta win. Yeah, I think, uh, more than anything we just gotta execute *** higher level and, um, I thought we’ve done *** lot of good things, um, but at the same time we, we made *** lot of mistakes that we haven’t been able to overcome and so. Um, we gotta be better in those bigger moments, not make those mistakes, and, um, at the end of the day, go, go prove it. You gotta prove it on, on game day, and that’s something that, uh, I believe we can do. Possibly you guys could have 3 backup linemen against Texas because your confidence and, and some of these guys that have to step in. Yeah, I mean the guys that have been, the guys that have played, um, and so obviously we’ll go through the league and see where we’re at with the guys that are *** little banged up, um, but you gotta give the respect where it’s deserved and those guys have *** great defensive line and so. Um, we’ll try to do the best we can is getting the ball out of my hand. I’m running the football, and then whenever there’s shots on the field, you gotta be able to hit them. Um, and so standing in the pocket making those throws, um, against *** really good defense. You mentioned that every season is different. So now that you guys are in this spot, can you rely on past years experience to things to help pull you out of? Yeah, I mean you can utilize some things. I mean we’ve played *** lot of big games and so knowing that um the speed of the game speeds up and the, the moment’s bigger, um, and you gotta settle yourself and go out there and play your best football, um. Um, but I mean, I don’t know if we’ve been in this situation this early in the, in the, uh, season, and so, uh, I think just learning from it together, um, building together, and then using what we can use from prior seasons, um, to hopefully make *** run at this thing and try to get ourselves in the playoffs and see where we can go from there. Work on in those bigger moments or just have to let the natural gain plug what you work. Yeah, I mean you can learn from it, but at the end of the day you gotta make the plays, um, and that’s stuff that we haven’t, we haven’t done consistently enough. There’s been games we have, we’ve won and there’s been games when we haven’t, um, and so, um, just having to make those plays in the big moments, um, will, will get you those wins. But you’ve uh, Patrick, in previous postseasons, you’ve made it very clear that you wanna. Use your legs to be more of *** dual threat. Is that something you’re gonna have to sort of engage on Sunday given the just the dire situation you guys are in? Yeah, I mean, you’re gonna have to utilize them, utilize everything, not just my legs. I mean, you gotta utilize everything you have, um, to go out there and win. I mean this is *** *** really good football team that’s playing really good. right now and has *** really good defense and so um we’re we’re have to throw it all out there and try to find *** way to win and um this will be *** big game for us to to to showcase who we are and who we think we can be moving on, um, the rest of the season we’ve heard from Creed and Andy being all to say close you know you guys are close. What signs do you see? Yeah, I mean if you look at every, every game that we’ve lost this year, we’ve been right in it up until the end, um, but we haven’t made those plays and so, um, this we, we’re definitely close but like I’ve kind of said these last few weeks we, we can be close, but you can’t be close for too long. You gotta go out there and make it happen, um, and I think we have the guys to do that, um, but we gotta go out there and prove it, and, uh, there’s another opportunity for us to go out there and prove it this weekend. What was it like, you know, you guys had some time off. Is there time off for you? Were you and coaches here talking about game plan stuff already, or did you? Actually kind of shut it down for *** little while and get away from football. Yeah, I mean, I always talk talking to coach, so I mean, obviously we’re in *** spot in the season where you can have some time off, but you’re, you’re looking ahead at at how to get yourself better to, to try to make *** run and. Um, I, I, I’ll talk to all the coaches, um, about things that I, I see and things that I think we can continue to get better and better at, um, at the end of the day they’re gonna, they’re gonna do what’s best for us and put us in the best situation to succeed, and I’ll give as much input as, as I can to help with that, um, but I trust that they’re gonna go out there and put us in the right position. You mentioned Houston’s defense. What’s, what’s the biggest challenge with what you see when you look at it so far? Yeah, you got to match their intensity. I think that’s, that’s the biggest thing. I mean, obviously the D line is good, the linebackers are good, and the DBs are good, but I think what makes them. Um, who they are is how hard they play, uh, every single snap they’re flying around and they’re trying to make plays happen. They’re trying to intercept the football, they’re trying to knock the football out. They’re trying to make big hits and so, uh, we got to match that intensity, um, as an offense and as *** team, um, in order to go out there and get *** win. How tough has this been to go through for the veterans guys who’ve had expect success have had so much success? Yeah, I mean, uh, I think it’s tough in the sense that we like to win. I mean, I, I know we all know it’s *** process and we all know that we have to just continue to give ourselves *** chance and continue to get better. Um, but when you have *** lot of guys that like to win and it’s, it’s tough when you lose. And so, um, we’ll continue to push. I think that’s one thing that’s, that makes us great is that no one’s hanging their head and everybody’s ready to go out there and, and try to prove ourselves this next week and, um, this is another great opportunity. It’s *** great opportunity at Arrowhead to, to showcase that who we think, like I said, who we think we can be the rest of this season, um, but it’s gonna start with, uh, Sunday. Patrick Creed Humphrey has been the one constant on your offensive line in the last two years. What do you think of when you think of Creed? Yeah, he’s ***, he’s *** leader, man. He’s someone that, uh, he knows what it takes in order to go out there and have success and he pushes other guys to, to match that level and, um, ***, *** great, *** great person, but *** great football player and *** great leader on this team and I’m glad that that’s the guy that’s kind of leading that offensive line. OK, thanks.
