Veteran cornerback Darius Slay was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday.

So much for that Eagles reunion.

Despite interest from the Eagles in bringing back the 34-year-old who spent five season in Philadelphia, Slay instead will head to Buffalo. And he’ll face the Eagles in Week 17 when the Bills host the Eagles.

The Eagles also put in a claim for Slay, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported, but the Bills had a higher priority so they were awarded the player.

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark on Wednesday morning reported that there was mutual interest between Slay and the Eagles in a reunion after getting released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This season hasn’t been great for Slay, who was a healthy scratch this past weekend before his release. In 10 games with the Steelers, Slay was targeted 37 times and gave up 26 catches for 302 yards and a touchdown. His opponent passer rating this year is 103.7, per NextGen Stats.

Slay spent five seasons with the Eagles from 2020-2024 and was a three-time Pro Bowler. Even well into his 30s, Slay played at a high level for the Eagles during their Super Bowl LIX season last year, but the team moved on from him for financial reasons in the offseason.

Not only did the Eagles move on from Slay but they also failed to sign Isaiah Rodgers, who left for Minnesota in free agency. Throughout this season, the Eagles have been searching for stability in their CB2 position.

While the Eagles have one really good outside corner in Quinyon Mitchell and one really good nickel corner in Cooper DeJean, the other outside cornerback spot has been a bit of a revolving door.

Although, recently, veteran Adoree’ Jackson has settled into that role enough that the Eagles won’t continue to rotate.

“Yeah, at this point I would say so,” Fangio said about Jackson on Wednesday.

The Eagles signed Jackson to a one-year deal this offseason with the expectation that he would push former draft pick Kelee Ringo. But Ringo was never able to win that job. The Eagles also traded for Jakorian Bennett, Jaire Alexander and Michael Carter II. Bennett has been buried on the bench, Alexander retired and Carter is a backup nickel and safety.

It looks like this job will be Jackson’s to lose the rest of the 2025 season.
