The New York Giants suffered another blow to their defensive line depth on Wednesday when practice squad defensive tackle Jordon Riley was signed to the Green Bay Packers‘ 53-man roster.

The third-year project player, a 2023 seventh-round draft pick (No. 243 overall), had been a developmental asset for Big Blue, appearing in 21 games with five starts over his first two seasons, logging 20 tackles (four for loss) and a quarterback hit.

Riley, a towering 6-foot-5, 315-pound interior lineman known for his athleticism despite raw technique, was waived before the 2025 campaign but quickly rejoined the Giants’ practice squad.

His departure comes at an inopportune time, thinning an already rotation-heavy unit that is teetering with nose tackle Dexter Lawrence battling an elbow injury.

The Packers, meanwhile, turned to Riley as a replacement for injured defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, whose season-ending injury created an urgent need.

This loss underscores the Giants’ struggles in retaining talent from their underwhelming 2023 draft class, with other picks, such as cornerback Tre Hawkins and safety Gervarrius Owens, already gone.

Without a clear immediate replacement, New York’s defensive front faces heightened pressure to maintain effectiveness down the stretch, potentially forcing more snaps for veterans and exposing vulnerabilities against run-heavy offenses.
