There are obviously some similarities between the current Philadelphia Eagles and the 2023 squad.

However, while the Eagles had a boatload of talent in 2023 as well, it’s a bit unfair to suggest that 2023 is anything like the current day. The reality is, the Eagles haven’t played good football, and sometimes, there doesn’t have to be any explanation for that.

Unfortunately, that comment has come up more often than not over the past few days, and Jordan Mailata wanted to speak about it. When speaking about the idea that the Eagles are similar to the 2023 squad, he completely shut it down, and I’m glad to see him do so.

“I’ll tell you right now: This is nowhere near close to 2023,” Mailata said on 94WIP on Monday night. “Let’s nip that in the bud right there. At least, as a player in the locker room that was part of the 2023 team and part of this team. It’s nowhere near. Nowhere near.”

“I’m telling you now,” Mailata said. “The way we go about our practice, the detail. Although we’re not winning games. I shouldn’t even say that. We’ve won eight games. I shouldn’t even say that. I think the way we attack every day with the attention to detail. I would probably say the detail right now is our in-game execution. That is lacking. Now, we can go back to practice and that will probably be a big emphasis of putting ourselves in these situations where they keep hurting us in games. That’s all you can do. I feel like that wasn’t there in ’23. It’s there this year. The coaching technique, it’s there this year. It wasn’t there in ’23.”

We have to remember that the Eagles won a Super Bowl a year ago.

With a lot of returning players from that roster, even the fact that this team has a lot more understanding of how to win is a big factor in the NFL nowadays.

We can’t just completely ignore that they won it all a year ago. I understand some fans aren’t happy and want to compare the two sides, and there are certainly some similarities, but the players say it best.
