The vibes surrounding this Minnesota Vikings team were high coming into the year. On the heels of a 13-4 season a year ago, many believed that this could easily be a playoff team once again.
However, this season has been tumultuous, as the Vikings currently sit at 4-8 and are now facing elimination from the playoffs. There is a chance Minnesota could catch fire down the stretch and make things tough, but the hill they’d have to climb to get there might be too much. Here is the elimination situation they face this weekend:

There are two scenarios in which the Vikings could be eliminated from postseason contention:
The Washington Commanders have had a rough season in their own right, with injuries to quarterback Jayden Daniels derailing their season, as they sit at 3-9 on the year. This is a very winnable game for the Vikings, but as mentioned above, they would likely need to win out PLUS get help from teams on the bubble to sneak into the playoffs this season.
The redemption arc for J.J. McCarthy and Kevin O’Connell would be incredible. Facing all this heat for poor play and poor playcalling, only to pull themselves out of the depths of the NFL to sneak into the playoffs, would be incredible. For the Vikings, they will have to take things one week at a time to try to see this through.
