Deion Sanders has never backed down from defending his kids against anybody. Shedeur Sanders was the subject of many jokes after he went from being considered a future top-three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to not even making it to the top 20 and falling all the way to the fifth round.

Sanders was selected with one of the teams originally projected to select him in the first round, the Cleveland Browns, but they did it with the No. 144 overall pick. After that, debates sparked about why the rookie quarterback had to wait way more than expected to hear his name called.

He’s now focused on what’s ahead with the Browns, a team with five quarterbacks on the roster. Sanders will likely have to compete against Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel to become the starter.

Meanwhile, he’s embracing the city and vowing to make the most out of this opportunity.

His father and former coach, Deion Sanders, has actively supported him before, during and after the draft process. Weeks after his shocking fifth-round slide, the two-time Super Bowl champion shared a strong message to lift Shedeur Sanders’ spirits ahead of his first NFL season.

His NFL journey didn’t have the best start, but Shedeur Sanders has been reminded that it doesn’t matter how he starts, but what he does with the opportunity he’s been given. The Browns aren’t the best franchise for a quarterback, but Sanders could be the catalyst of a much-needed turnaround.

The 2025 season is still months away. Meanwhile, Sanders will have many chances to prove his value in the league.
