Tory Woodbury’s climbed the coaching ranks with notable work heading up groups at the tight end position and especially in recent years as a special teams coordinator, with both professional and college football experience.

Woodbury now is set to helm his first program as the head coach and it’s an HBCU program quite familiar to the former pro player.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Woodbury was introduced to the team Wednesday night as the new head coach at Winston-Salem State.

Winston-Salem State had sought a new leader on the heels of a 4-6 season with consecutive losses in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

It’s a homecoming for Woobury, a former star quarterback for the Rams of Winston-Salem State. He broke 13 school records during his career with the Rams and less than a decade ago was inducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame.

Woodbury had NFL stints with the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.
