Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is set to be a CBS analyst during the New York Giants’ bye week, the station announced.
Wilson, who has been demoted to third string quarterback with the Giants, could end up being an analyst or another after his career. Other star quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Tom Brady have gone on to do that after their careers, and Wilson seems to be trying his hand in that.
With Wilson’s career seemingly closing down and entering its twilight years, the transition to TV could be attractive to the former Super Bowl winning quarterback.
Jaxson Dart shined in the preseason, but then head coach Brian Daboll said the team had a plan and named Wilson the starter. After just three games, the team moved to Dart and find out what they have in the rookie.
This also hurts the Steelers’ compensatory pick projections. They were forecasted to have a fourth-round pick from Wilson’s contract laden with incentives, but with less playing time, those will be chased down.
Wilson’s play tailed off sharply toward the end of the season. On top of that, a report dropped in January that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith took away Wilson’s ability to work at the line of scrimmage. That could have irked people in the organization.
Wilson’s job is relevant to the Steelers, considering he would net them a fourth round pick as it stands. However, he could earn up to $21 million in the Big Apple with an incentive-laden contract, but he will not see most of that deal now after the switch.
