The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will drop a 10-part docuseries called Raise the Flags on Amazon Prime Video Thursday, Dec. 11. The show tracks the franchise’s 50 years, starting with an 0-26 record and ending with two Super Bowl wins.
Co-Owner Ed Glazer commissioned the project and produced it. Filmmaker Trent Cooper directed the show. Cooper has won eight Emmy Awards. The series includes more than 100 interviews with players, coaches, executives, staff members, and media personalities — some current, some former.
“Raise The Flags is a celebration of the people, the perseverance, and the passion that built this franchise over the past 50 seasons,” said Glazer in a statement, per the Tampa Bay Times. “We wanted to create an honest and comprehensive look at our journey — from the earliest challenges to the unforgettable championship moments — and to honor everyone who has shaped the Buccaneers franchise into what it is today.”
Cooper interviewed people throughout production. He gathered old footage to support the stories. The Tampa native wanted to uncover tales that even die-hard fans hadn’t heard.
“I grew up in the Tampa Bay area and have loved the Bucs my entire life, but storytelling is my job, and this story has it all: grit, heartbreak, community, unforgettable characters, and more,” said Cooper.
Each episode examines different eras, obstacles, or achievements in team history. One episode digs into the 1995 draft when General Manager Rich McKay made several trades to pick Warren Sapp at 12 and Derrick Brooks at 28. Both became Hall of Famers. They anchored one of the greatest defenses the NFL has seen.
The show covers Doug Williams joining the team. Other topics include the Bo Jackson draft saga, Tony Dungy’s hiring, and Tom Brady’s arrival that brought a championship in 2021.
Viewers will hear about who yelled at Brady when he almost threw the Lombardi Trophy over open water during the Super Bowl boat parade. The show reveals why Hardy Nickerson and Keyshawn Johnson almost fought on a plane in January 2002.
Each episode concludes with prominent figures answering one question: Who is the greatest player in franchise history? The answers change across episodes.
Raise the Flags joins Amazon Prime Video’s sports programming lineup with titles like Kelce, Bye Bye Barry, and Coach Prime. The show premieres the same day Tampa Bay hosts Atlanta in a Thursday night game on Amazon Prime at 8 p.m.
