What to watch for during the Texans vs. Chiefs Sunday Night Football game on December 7
The Chiefs are having their roughest season in quite some time, but that doesn’t make them any less formidable, especially on their home turf. They’ve gone 6-6 through the first 13 weeks of the season, but they’ve only lost once at Arrowhead in the same span. They’ve still got one of the best homefield advantages in the league, and when that’s backed up by incredible talent, they’re very hard to beat.
And make no mistake, the Chiefs do still have that talent, particularly under center. Patrick Mahomes has the second-best quarterback rating in the league, and is third in overall passing yards, with 22 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. Their passing offense is on-point, especially with tight end Travis Kelce still playing at a high level, but the Chiefs have struggled elsewhere, and even their formidable defense has been slipping a little bit. They’re still the favorites in this game, but the team that once looked like it could win three Super Bowls in a row is fading.Â

Meanwhile, the Texans have fared slightly better this season, with a 7-5 record so far. Their secret? The best defense in the league in terms of yards allowed definitely doesn’t hurt, and the combination of quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receiver Nico Collins is still money all these weeks in. Plus, while the Chiefs lost a Thanksgiving heartbreaker to the Cowboys, the Texans are coming off a four-game winning streak that includes an upset victory over the Colts on Thanksgiving weekend. They’ve got momentum and they’ve got talent. Now they just have to figure out how to flummox Mahomes on his home field.
Right now, both the Chiefs and the Texans are in third place in their respective divisions, with just five games each remaining to secure their place in the playoffs. That means if they want a Wild Card spot, or even an dark horse division title, every game is a must-win game for both teams. Who comes out on top? Find out this weekend on Sunday Night Football.Â
