Jones Comments on ‘Vanilla’ Offense

Jones’ comments ran the gamut on the Vikings’ offense, which has been simplified this season to make sure everyone’s on the same page.

“Have you seen any changes…That would indicate to you that things are getting pared down a bit?” Jones was asked.

“Yes and no…Cuz you don’t want it too vanilla,” Jones said in response.

“From that aspect, no, it’s not just vanilla. But, um, some of…Where it gets complex…” Jones continued.

“Where everybody may not have the same deeper understanding of each play concept is where we’ve kinda made it…Made it less…Yeah, I guess in a way, dumbed it down, kinda took the meat of it off, but you’re still getting a lot of everything though, so it’s give and take,” Jones said.

Fans React Swiftly to Jones Comments

Fans reacted swiftly in the comments section.

“People can ride the JJ train if they want. I’m off,” one fan said. “As a fan, I don’t have time for development. If I have to watch development, I’ll watch the NBA G-League,” they added.

“This is one of the nicest ways I’ve ever seen a player throw a teammate under the bus,” another said.

“He’s a rookie,” a third said of the second-year man McCarthy. “KOC (coach Kevin O’Connell’s) play-calling has resulted in historic inefficiency.”

“He was really trying not to say it,” another added of the “dumbed down” portion.
