Earlier this week, the Green Bay Packers had signed defensive tackle Jordon Riley off the New York Giants‘ practice squad. But general manager Brian Gutekunst hasn’t stopped looking for options to create depth along the interior of the defensive line after losing Devonte Wyatt to a season-ending ankle injury.

Packers add Quinton Bohanna

On Friday, the Packers claimed defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. That means Green Bay absorbs Bohanna’s old contract from Seattle, around $300k for the final five weeks of the regular season. The interior defensive lineman had been waived by the Seahawks on Thursday after spending the past two years in Seattle.

A 26-year-old player, Quinton Bohanna was a sixth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys back in 2021. He has also played for the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Seahawks. He’s had 637 career defensive snaps in the NFL, with some alignment versatility to play as a defensive tackle or a true nose tackle.

As an expected corresponding move, the Packers officially placed Devonte Wyatt on injured reserve — he’s set to miss the rest of the season with a lower-leg fracture.

Depth at defensive tackle

With the two new additions, the Packers have more depth on the interior. The expected starters are third-year players Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden, while the immediate backups are rookies Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse. The new pieces, Jordon Riley and Quinton Bohanna, could be a part of the rotation soon.

More roster moves to come

Right now, the Packers have a full 53-man roster. They have wide receiver Jayden Reed and edge defender Brenton Cox Jr. listed as questionable to play, and they are still on injured reserve. If the Packers want to activate one or both of them for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, new corresponding moves will have to be made in order to create roster spots.

Green Bay has also designated running back MarShawn Lloyd to return from IR and edge defender Collin Oliver from the physically unable to perform list, so the young players have a shot at returning to the active roster down the stretch.
