Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen announced on Friday that cornerback Sauce Gardner has been ruled out of Sunday’s game with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gardner has not practiced this week after suffering a calf injury in the Colts‘ Week 13 game against Houston.

On Monday, Steichen said that Gardner was going to “miss some time.” However, he is not expected to be placed on injured reserve.

There is no specific timeline for Gardner’s return, but Steichen does expect him to return this season.

In Gardner’s first two games with the Colts, he has allowed five receptions on 10 targets for 38 yards with two pass breakups. He’s also made 12 tackles.

With Gardner, the Colts have become a very man-coverage-heavy defense. That approach from defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo could change while Gardner is sidelined.

After Gardner exited the game, Mekhi Blackmon and Jaylon Jones each saw snaps at outside cornerback opposite of Charvarius Ward.

Against the Jaguars this week, it’s not only the division lead that is on the line this week, but the numbers say that the outcome of this game will have a major impact on their playoff chances.
