Smith, Taylor doubtful for Texans matchup due to injuries

  • December 6, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A makeshift offensive line will likely be protecting Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Sunday night in a near must-win matchup with the Houston Texans.

The Chiefs listed All-Pro right guard Trey Smith (ankle) and starting right tackle Jawaan Taylor (elbow) as doubtful for the Week 14 contest in Friday’s final injury report.

Starting rookie left tackle Josh Simmons also will not be playing after being placed on injured reserve this week due to a dislocated and fractured left wrist.

Without those three players in front of Mahomes, the Chiefs’ offensive line figures to feature Wanya Morris, Mike Caliendo and Jaylon Moore, along with typical starters Kingsley Suamataia and Creed Humphrey.

They’ll be going up against the Texans’ No. 1 ranked defense and defensive ends Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson, who are both top five in the NFL in sacks this season.

In other injury news, Chiefs kick returner Nikko Remigio will not play due to a shoulder injury. He was limited in practice Friday after not being on the injury report the first two practice days of the week.

Defensive back Chris Roland-Wallace also will not play. He’s been ruled out for the second straight game due to a back injury.

The Chiefs (6-6) and Texans (7-5) will kick off at 7:20 p.m. CT Sunday night.
