BEREA, Ohio — Browns safety Grant Delpit said it best this week.
He knows the reality as the 3-9 Browns host the 1-11 Tennessee Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m.
“It’s not going to be a lot of people watching this game,” he said. “Keep it honest. It’s two teams that, we have like four combined wins overall, but we’re going to really see who loves this game.
“We’re going to see who loves football. I think that from a defensive standpoint, we’re going to set that off as we do. We’re looking to dominate every snap. We got guys that’s been going there all year.”
And while wins haven’t come easily for these two teams this season, there’s still a surprising amount to watch for in this game.
Here are several storylines and my predictions for each:
Will Myles Garrett break the NFL sack record this game?
Garrett, on his way to his second career NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, currently has 19.0 sacks.
He’s four away from breaking the NFL single season record, 22.5, that was set by Michael Strahan and matched by TJ Watt.
So can he get it done this weekend?
The good news for Garrett is that no QB in the NFL has been sacked as much as Titans rookie Cam Ward.
He’s been sacked 48 times this season, and has gotten sacked at least twice in each of the Titans’ 12 games. He’s had two games where he’s taken six sacks, two games where he’s taken five, and four where he’s been sacked four times.
Prediction: Garrett has a chance to break the record this weekend, and I actually think the defense has a chance to break the franchise record for sacks in a game (11.0). That’s especially considering how close they came against the Raiders with 10 sacks as a unit.
The fact that this is a real possibility is a testament to Garrett, who already has four- and five-sack games this season.
My guess is he impresses at home and seals it on Sunday.
Sanders vs. Ward
Shedeur Sanders will make his third career start for the Browns, and Sunday will once again serve as a reminder that he and Ward were the two top QBs for most of the 2025 NFL draft process.
While Ward went No. 1 overall to the Titans, Sanders tumbled to the fifth round before the Browns traded up to get him.
Sanders is 1-1 as a starter, having defeated the Raiders 24-10 in his starting debut, and losing 26-8 to the 49ers last Sunday.
The Browns felt Sanders (16 of 25, 149 yards, one TD, zero INT, 93.6 rating) made progress in his second start.
Ward and the Titans have struggled, with some calling for the Titans to move on from him already.
Prediction: Sanders will need to continue looking downfield and establishing trust with his pass catchers, something he talked about this week.
But where Sanders will have the edge is on the defensive side.
The Titans are the 27th-ranked defense in total yards allowed per game. The Browns are second. I predict the Browns defense will give Sanders and the offense some advantageous field position
The Browns D-line as a whole
The Browns defense took a big blow last week against the 49ers when veteran defensive tackle Maliek Collins suffered a season-ending quad injury last week.
Several defensive linemen have game statuses of questionable heading into the game including Mason Graham (rib), Mike Hall (knee), Isaiah McGuire (knee). Adin Huntington (quad) is also out.
Prediction: Graham said during his Friday media availability that he planned on playing.
I think Graham will carry a huge chunk of the load that Collins leaves, and seems closer than ever to his first solo sack.
My pick
The Browns defense will be the best unit on the field between these two teams and I’m banking on them.
I think this will be a repeat of the Raiders game, so I’m going with the same score prediction: Browns 24, Titans 10.
