The 2025 NFL season hasn’t exactly gone as planned for the Kansas City Chiefs, who sit on the outside of the AFC playoff race looking in after a 6-6 start.

“Every season is different,” head coach Andy Reid said. “This is a sport of challenges. That’s what it is. It’s probably a microcosm of life as you look at it. There’s always challenges. … There’s such a small margin between winning and losing that every week is a challenge, a major challenge. That’s how you have to approach it, and you have to be ready for it.”

As the Chiefs attempt to keep pace in the AFC a huge showdown against the surging Houston Texans looms.

The Texans are riding a four-game winning streak into Arrowhead, but will have to contend with more than just the Chiefs on Sunday night. The Weather Channel revealed the bitter cold in the forecast for Sunday night’s contest and offered a warning for the warm-weather team.

“This one has a playoff feel, as the Texans are hot, but still trailing two other teams in their division while the Chiefs are strangely 6-6 and fighting to stay in the wild card hunt,” the Weather Channel said. “Fortunately, we’re not expecting snow Sunday night. But it will certainly be cold, with temperatures below freezing around kickoff. Winds should taper off a bit as high pressure settles in, so that’s a positive.

“This will be familiar territory for both teams. Kansas City beat the Texans twice in the playoffs in January 2020 and again in 2025, coming from 24-0 behind to win that 2020 game. Both games had similar weather to what we’re expecting Sunday night.”

Houston and Kansas City kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
