CBS Sports’ Mike Renner projected the Philadelphia Eagles to replace tight end Dallas Goedert in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
According to team sources, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is becoming more involved with the offensive preparation this week. Philadelphia has lost two straight games to the Cowboys and Bears and has fallen to third in the NFC standings.
The Eagles will look to bounce back this week against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football after having 10 days off since playing Chicago on Black Friday.
Eagles’ Offense Searching For Answers in 2025
After Saquon Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards in the 2024 regular season and added nearly 500 more rushing yards in the postseason, the Eagles’ entire offense has fallen off a cliff in 2025.
This season, Barkley has 740 yards on 198 carries, averaging a paltry 3.7 yards per carry, and has just four touchdowns on the year. The passing game has been a constant topic of conversation, with reports of frustrations with Jalen Hurts’ conservative style coming from multiple players inside the Eagles’ locker room.
Despite having the highest offensive payroll in the league, Philadelphia currently ranks 24th in total yards, 23rd in passing, 22nd in rushing, and 19th in points per game. The numbers have since decreased, with the Eagles averaging just 15.5 points per game in their last four contests and scoring just 15 in the Black Friday loss to the Bears.
The one big switch this season on the Eagles’ offense is offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who has come under fire from Birds fans for the predictable playcalling and lack of productivity from his offensive scheme.
Despite that, Sirianni said that they would “evaluate everything,” but Patullo would remain the playcaller. But the Eagles’ head coach will be involved as well, as he looks to try and fix the problems that have been plaguing a very talented offensive cast of playmakers.
Sirianni Has A Background As An Offensive Coordinator
Before taking the head coaching job with the Eagles, Sirianni was the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2020. He has also coached quarterbacks and receivers over the course of his 17-year career as an NFL coach.
Sirianni has had an impact on the Eagles’ offense for several seasons, but decided to focus more on being a “CEO” after the Eagles collapsed in the 2023 season. He handed some of the offensive control to then-offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who has since become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
A source noted that the way Sirianni’s role is structured allows him to focus on whatever unit needs him the most, and right now that is obviously the offensive side of the ball.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts said there was “a lot of conversation with Coach Sirianni this week about how we can improve and what his vision is and the direction that we’re going in, and I have a lot of confidence in where we’re headed.”
Saquon Barkley was also a fan of the game plan for this week, saying, “I really love the game plan. I’m excited. We’re excited to go out there and to put together a complete game — offense, defense, special teams.”
We will find out just how much the offensive game plan has changed on Monday night, when Philadelphia heads across the country to battle the Chargers. Kickoff is set for 8:15 PM on ESPN.
