The New York Giants are apparently making some changes during its bye in Week 14.

With a 2-11 record, the Giants have been mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs. In November, New York fired head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.
The Giants promoted assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to the interim head coaching position. He’s played a key role in trying to change the culture in New York after Daboll was fired. He canned Bowen.

Kafka has also disciplined first-round pick Abdul Carter. The linebacker was benched in the first defensive series against the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.
Carter was benched for the first quarter in the Giants’ 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots on “Monday Night Football.”
Amid issues with Carter, the defensive line has underperformed this season. Per Pat Leonard of NY Daily News Sports, New York fired assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox.
“The Giants fired assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox, according to a source,” Leonard posted on X. “Credit @Doug_Analytics for noticing his profile had been removed from the team’s website.
“Looked into it. It’s true: Cox no longer with the team Giants have an historically bad run defense, the worst in the NFL. D-Line coach Andre Patterson remains.”
Cox, 57, had served as an assistant defensive line coach with the Giants since 2022. He was a three-time Pro Bowl player as a linebacker in the NFL.
Carter, the No. 3 pick in April’s draft, has recorded 31 total tackles and 1.5 sacks through his first 13 games in the league. He hasn’t made the impact the Giants thought he would after a strong 2024 season with Penn State.
Kafka didn’t provide details for Carter’s benching on Monday night, but said it was his decision.
“Just based on how we went during the week, that was a decision I wanted to make,” Kafka said, via USA Today.
New York will next host the Washington Commanders on Dec. 14.
