The Detroit Lions are riding high following a pivotal Week 14 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, but two of their key players received fines on Saturday for their actions the week prior.
The league announced that it fined Lions linebacker Jack Campbell and wide receiver Jameson Williams for infractions committed during Detroit’s Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.
Campbell’s wallet is $11,593 lighter after being fined for unnecessary roughness on a facemask penalty with 2:42 left in the third quarter. With the Lions trailing 24–21, Green Bay faced third-and-1 from Detroit’s 6-yard line. Packers quarterback Jordan Love threw incomplete, but Campbell’s facemask on tight end Josh Whyle gave Green Bay a first down at the Lions’ 3.
Shortly after, Love connected with receiver Dontayvion Wicks for a 1-yard touchdown to extend Green Bay’s lead to 31–21.
Williams, meanwhile, received a $17,391 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting with 13:34 left in the game. On the play, Detroit faced third-and-3 from the Packers’ 35 when Jared Goff hit Williams for a 7-yard gain with Evan Williams in coverage.
After securing the first down, Williams spun the ball on the ground at the defender’s feet as part of his celebration, drawing the penalty and, now, the fine.
For Williams, this marks his fourth fine of the season and his third for taunting, with two of those taunting penalties coming against Green Bay. As for Campbell, this is his third fine of the year and his second consecutive week being fined for a facemask.
Green Bay defeated Detroit 31-24, sweeping them for the season series.
