Following the Colts’ Week 14 performance, here are three things we learned from what took place.

The Indianapolis Colts are now 8-5 on the season after Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With the dust having settled on the Colts‘ Week 14 performance, let’s take a look back at what happened and highlight what we learned.

Colts’ playoff hopes in jeopardy

We do not yet know the extent of Daniel Jones’ injury, but he was ruled out of Sunday’s game with an Achilles injury. After Sunday’s loss, the Colts are now 8-5, are a game back in the AFC South race, and are lingering around the outside of the AFC playoff picture.

Whether it’s Riley Leonard, Brett Rypien, or someone else, one of those quarterbacks may have to lead the Colts to the playoffs and do so against a very difficult schedule to finish the season. All four of the Colts’ remaining games are against teams with winning records.

Jaguars limit Jonathan Taylor

With Jones not in the game, the Jaguars prioritized containing Taylor with Riley Leonard at quarterback. Taylor would average under 4.0 yards per carry in this game.

In addition to not getting the big plays that Taylor is capable of generating, when an offense doesn’t have a run game to lean on, it makes moving the ball through the air a lot more difficult with that unit operating from behind the sticks and in predictable passing situations.

Kansas City, Houston, and Jacksonville have all limited Taylor’s production in recent weeks.

Colts pass rush was quiet

This has been an underlying problem for much of the season. Through the first half of the season, this unit benefited from playing with multi-score leads often, which created more pass-rush opportunities.

However, that masked the lack of consistency from this unit. Against Jacksonville, the Colts didn’t generate any sacks or quarterback hits. According to PFF’s early tracking data, Lawrence was pressured on only 25% of his dropbacks.

When a quarterback has time, it makes stopping an offense all the more difficult. That time also led to some explosive plays in the passing game for the Jaguars.
