Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is winning as though he’s at Pinson Valley High School again.

The Broncos beat the Las Vegas Raiders 24-17 on Sunday for their 10th victory in a row.

“Ten wins is a long time,” Nix said. “I don’t think at any stage of football I’ve ever won 10 in a row. I take that back. My junior year I did. But we have come a long way. It’s just a great number. It’s hard to do.”

In 2017, Pinson Valley won all 15 of its games, including the AHSAA Class 6A championship contest. The Indians also had a 13-game winning streak in 2018, when they followed a season-opening loss to Hoover with another run to the state crown.

An All-State selection in both seasons, Nix won the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football honor in 2018.

As a rookie in 2024, Nix helped Denver win 10 games and go to the AFC playoffs for the first time since 2015. At 11-2, the Broncos have one more victory than last year with four regular-season games remaining.

By beating Las Vegas, Denver registered the fourth winning streak of at least 10 games in the franchise’s 66 seasons.

“It’s amazing,” Nix said. “Ten’s a long streak. We’ve won 11 games. That’s really tough to do. Eleven and two, it’s not many things you want to be negative about because you want to be appreciative of each opportunity and be appreciative of the wins no matter how they come.

“But at the same time, we’re always looking to get better. We know that we’re not just going to continue to win games because we’ve won them in the past. We got to continue to get better. A streak like that, it’s hard to do. I say it all the time, even though we’re now better than we were last year, we don’t want to stop at 11.”

On Sunday, both of Denver’s touchdown drives took 14 plays, and the Broncos kicked a field goal to end a 19-play series as they built an 18:03 advantage in time of possession.

“You sort of see there wasn’t a whole lot of explosive plays,” Nix said, “so that number we’d like to see go up. But at the same time, it gave our defense a good day — I’m not going to say off, because they played well when they were on the field, but definitely not as much as they typically are in a game, so that’s good for them. They’ve earned that and deserve it.”

Nix completed 31-of-38 passes for 212 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

The former Auburn quarterback said there’s nothing wrong with a game-manager performance in a victory.

“It’s become a negative thing,” Nix said. “I don’t know why. The best quarterbacks of all-time managed the game at a high level. I think the biggest difference is when the time comes down to it, they find a way to make either an explosive or another play. All the great ones that win, they manage the game at a high level.”

Denver opened the game with a 14-play, 81-yard touchdown drive, capped by Nix’s 8-yard QB draw on third-and-goal. It was only the second third-down snap of the series, with Nix completing a 3-yard pass to running back R.J. Harvey for a first down on the other.

After the Raiders tied the score at 7-7 on their opening series, Denver wide receiver Marvin Mims broke the tie with a 48-yard punt-return touchdown with 6:29 left in the first half.

The Broncos moved 91 yards on their first possession of the second half to take a 21-7 lead. Harvey scored from 3 yards out with 4:05 left in the third quarter to conclude a march that featured 9-of-9 passing by Nix. With only one of the completions gaining more than 9 yards, the nine passes accounted for 51 yards.

Denver took 10:14 off the fourth-quarter clock while moving 90 yards for a field goal.

Las Vegas scored 10 points in the final 2:17.

At 11-2, the Broncos are tied with the New England Patriots for the best record in the AFC, and Denver holds a tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed, which receives a first-round bye. Against their common opponents, the Broncos are undefeated, but the Patriots lost to the Raiders 20-13 in the season-opening game on Sept. 7.

The Broncos play the Green Bay Packers at 3:25 p.m. CST Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
