EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane exited Sunday’s game against the New York Jets late in the first half with a rib injury, but the run game didn’t miss a beat in the 34-10 victory at MetLife Stadium.

As Achane went out, second-year tailback Jaylen Wright rushed for a career-high 107 yards and his first NFL touchdown on 24 carries. The Dolphins totaled 239 rushing yards as three different running backs — rookie Ollie Gordon II, included — found the end zone.

After the game, coach Mike McDaniel said Achane was available to re-enter in the event of an emergency, but he never felt compelled to risk his standout speedster.

There also was no fracture to the ribs, according to McDaniel.

“You worry about breaks. That takes time. Didn’t see that, but he’ll get treatment,” he said. “He was available to go back in the game. I just decided not to put him in.”

Achane was attended to by trainers in the team’s sideline medical tent after a 29-yard run he had in the middle of the second quarter. He came out of the tent and had trainers accompany him for a slow walk into the locker room later in the drive that went deep into the period.

Achane, who passed the 1,000-yard mark last Sunday in a win against the New Orleans Saints, had 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on just seven first-half carries at the time of his departure.

He was deemed questionable to return by the team. Early in the second half, he was on the sideline with his helmet on and a large coat over him but never went back into the game.

The early prognosis for Achane appears promising, as the team would like to have him available for the Dec. 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6).

“One would hope,” McDaniel said. “I’ll push all the burden on to the trainers, and push him as much as he can.

“The good news is, as you guys saw, we do have some other players to hand the ball off to, as well. I promise you, he’ll be in there if he’s ready.”

In his absence, Wright had a career afternoon and Gordon rushed for 17 yards and his touchdown on five carries.

“It’s just, it’s me,” Wright said. “I mean, just waited patiently for this opportunity. I’m blessed for this opportunity. I’m going to thank God for this opportunity. It’s been a season. It’s been long, but I’m very thankful to be able to get those reps today. I do feel like I left a lot of yards on the field. That’s just me being hard on myself.”

The job of the offensive line run-blocking up front was also instrumental in keeping the run game rolling regardless of which running back was in the game.

The Dolphins also had two key special teamers go down Sunday in defensive back Elijah Campbell (knee, ankle) and linebacker Caleb Johnson (shoulder).

Starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson sustained a hamstring injury scare early in the second half, but he finished out the game and was fine afterward.

Wilson plays in old home

The Dolphins had backup quarterback Zach Wilson available for Sunday’s game after he surfaced on the team’s injury report Saturday night with an illness, and he played at the end of the blowout.

The Dolphins-Jets also marked a return for Wilson to where he played his first three NFL seasons with the Jets as the No. 2 pick of the 2021 draft. Although he entered, he did not attempt a pass, only handing the ball off and taking the final kneeldowns.

Also active for the Dolphins after they were questionable Friday were center Aaron Brewer (ankle/neck/knee), safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (thumb/groins) and Campbell (ankle), who later exited with the new knee ailment.

Brewer, who hasn’t missed a start in his two seasons with the Dolphins, was expected to play based on McDaniel’s assessment ahead of Friday drills. Melifonwu, who had a sack Sunday, was a surprise with a questionable designation after practicing in full all week. Campbell popped up on the Thursday injury report with the ankle ailment and then missed Friday’s practice.

All Dolphins pregame inactives were healthy scratches Sunday: tackle Kendall Lamm, wide receiver Tahj Washington, defensive tackle Matthew Butler, cornerback A.J. Green III, linebacker Andre Carter II and quarterback Quinn Ewers, who’s available as an emergency third quarterback.

The Jets had quarterback Justin Fields (knee) among inactives after he was ruled out Friday. Tyrod Tayler started for New York, but exited early due to a groin injury, leaving the rest of the game up to young third-stringer Brady Cook for New York.
