SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Indianapolis Colts to extend their perfect home record since 2015 against their division rival, while the Atlanta Falcons suffered a second-half collapse against the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday’s NFL action.
Colts 19, Jaguars 36
The Jaguars and Colts entered their matchup tied at 8-4 in a battle for the division lead. Jacksonville continued its home dominance over Indianapolis, improving to 10-0 at home against the Colts since 2015.
The game was tied 7-7 late in the first quarter when Trevor Lawrence found Jakobi Meyers behind the Indianapolis defense in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown, giving Jacksonville a 14-7 lead.
The Colts suffered a significant blow on their next drive when quarterback Daniel Jones went down with a non-contact injury. The team announced it was an Achilles injury that could be season-ending, though nothing has been confirmed.
With Indianapolis facing adversity, Jacksonville showed no mercy. Jonathan Taylor was reaching for a first down when Eric Murray forced a fumble that was recovered by Jarrian Jones.
On the following play, Travis Etienne ran for a touchdown, his second of the day, extending the Jaguars’ lead to two touchdowns.
Jacksonville continued to control the game in rainy conditions, securing the victory that improved their home record against the Colts to 10-0 since 2015.
“I think our guys took control of the moment in terms of understanding yeah this was a big game in a lot of ways, and I think our guys have responded in so many ways in these big games — you look at Kansas City, San Francisco — some of those moments where I think they ultimately always kind of feel disrespected and that’s something that continues to feed our team,” said Jaguars head coach Liam Coen.
Seahawks 37, Falcons 9
The Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks were tied 6-6 at halftime before the game shifted dramatically in the third quarter.
Rashid Shaheed returned the opening kickoff of the second half 100 yards for a touchdown, the longest play in the NFL this year, giving Seattle a 13-6 lead.
The Falcons’ struggles continued as four of their next five drives ended in turnovers, allowing the Seahawks to capitalize and secure a blowout victory. Atlanta fell to 4-9 with the loss.
“You can’t give up back-breaking plays that allow your team to self-destruct when you’re playing a really tight football game like that,” said Falcons head coach Raheem Morris. That first half, that was what the team should look like. If you can find a way not to have those penalties, you score some touchdowns, you’re in plus territory, and you have a great opportunity to win this football game or at least give yourself a chance to win the football game. And when you come out in the second half and you give up the kickoff return, you turn the football over, you give yourself no chance.”
It’ll be a quick turnaround for Atlanta, who faces the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.
