That’s what you do to a bad team. Again.

It was the 3-10 New York Jets the Miami Dolphins beat on Sunday, 34-10. They have won four straight now and five of six. They’re 6-7 with four games left.

Here are 10 thoughts on Sunday’s win:

1. Stat of the game: 21-0. That was the score after the Dolphins opening three drives of 69, 80 and 29 (after linebacker Tyrel Dodson’s interception). Mike McDaniel’s offense had the Jets confused at the start, and that was the game.

2. Running back De’Von Achane left the game early in the second quarter, but it doesn’t sound serious in that he wasn’t ever officially ruled out and stood on the sidelines in the second half. But he took the Dolphins offense with him in some respects. He had seven carries for 92 yards (13.1 average) and a touchdown to that point. He had two carries for 40 yards on the opening 69-yard touchdown drive and scored on a 13-yard run on the second drive. Without him, the Dolphins didn’t score a touchdown again until 6:18 left in the fourth quarter. He’s been electric for the Dolphins this year. That said it’s not clear how open the Dolphins were after taking that big lead and …

3. … Jaylen Wright had a productive day behind an offensive line that has found its groove. He ran 24 times for 107 yards (4.5-yard average) with a touchdown. Wright hasn’t had the season the Dolphins or surely he expected. But up 21-0 Mike McDaniel was going to keep pounding the ball and running the clock. This was a game the offensive line ground out. As a team, the Dolphins ran for an impressive 239 yards. That’s what you’re supposed to do on a cold day on the road when you get the early lead.

4. Pick a stat, any stat, and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver couldn’t have expected much more. His defense held the Jets to: 1 of 12 on third downs (1 of 2 on fourth downs); 0 for 2 on red-zone chances, 62 yards rushing and three interceptions and three forced fumbles (the Jets recovered all three). So you can hold the idea the Dolphins defense was dominant and …

5 … the Jets were a mess. When the Jets’ starting/backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor left with a groin injury in the first quarter, it meant undrafted rookie Brady Cook took over their offense. Cook, out of Missouri, was promoted from the practice squad this past week and hadn’t thrown an NFL pass. He was promoted from the practice squad this week. He completed 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards, two interceptions and a paltry 35.8 rating. It also continued a run of good days for the Dolphins in facing backup (or back-backup) quarterbacks:

— Atlanta: Kirk Cousins, 21-31 for 173 yards and an 81.8 rating

— Cleveland: Gabriel Dillon 13 of 18 for 116 yards and an 89.1 rating

— Washington: Marcus Mariota, 20 of 30 for 213 yards, one TD, one interception and a 84.4 rating.

Throw in rookie Tyler Shough starting his fourth NFL game (26-38, 239, two TDs, on interception and a 91.9 rating), and the Dolphins’ defense has done well against some QB-challenged offenses. They also held Josh Allen and Buffalo to 13 points on Nov. 9, so it’s not like they’ve feasted just on backup quarterbacks. But they got some good fortune facing an untried rookie on Sunday.

6. OK, we’re not going to go crazy on the Dolphins’ playoff ideas, but let’s run down the Dolphins schedule the relevant Sunday news off the early games. The Dolphins moved to 6-7 and as of Sunday’s early games were looking up at :

Division leaders: New England (11-2), Denver (10-2), Jacksonville (8-4) and Pittsburgh (7-6).

Wild Card teams: Buffalo (9-4), Indianapolis (8-4) and the Los Angeles Chargers (8-4).

Others “In the Hunt:” Houston (7-5), Kansas City (6-6), Baltimore (6-7).

Of note: Indianapolis, the L.A. Chargers and Baltimore beat the Dolphins and have the tie-breaker on them.

7. Tagovailoa wasn’t asked to do much after a first quarter where he completed 9 of 11 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Or maybe the Jets defense also woke up. Tua completed one of four passes in the second quarter for minus-2 yards. For the game, he completed 13 of 21 passes for 127 yards and the touchdown for a 94.7 rating.

8. What kind of a game was it? Well, when Tua completed a 6-yard pass to Jaylen Waddle in the third quarter, it was noteworthy for being the first third-down conversion of the game. The Dolphins previously were 0 for 6 on third downs. The Jets were 0 for 8 at that point.

9. Hit and Run:

*Zach Sieler had two-and-a-half sacks Sunday.

*The one blemish Sunday was a 78-yard punt return that made it 21-7 in the first quarter.

*The Dolphins moved to 12th in the draft after Sunday’s early games while the Jets are seventh. Not much difference for three wins separating them.

*Sunday for the Taylors meant dad, Jason, was in the College Football Playoff as a Miami assistant and son, Mason, had five catches for 51 yards as the only threat in the Jets offense.

10. Next game: Dolphins at Pittsburgh on Dec. 15. A Monday night adventure between two teams you’re not sure about. Pittsburgh started 4-1, lost five of their next seven and then went to Baltimore and won 27-22 to take the lead of the AFC North.
