PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Prince George’s County man was arrested in connection with organizing an illegal car rally event during the Super Bowl on Feb.14, according to Maryland State Police.

Kevin Rivera, 23, of Lanham, Maryland, is accused of orchestrating the event and faces five felony charges and four misdemeanors, including riot, fleeing police, and reckless driving, officials said.

According to Maryland State Police, illegal car rallies erupted across the Philadelphia region following the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl 59 victory. Hundreds of vehicles blocked intersections, engaging in dangerous activities such as drifting and burnouts. Spectators surrounded the vehicles, capturing the chaos on social media.

The rallies also saw individuals launching hazardous fireworks in intersections, posing a significant threat to public safety, officials said.

Philadelphia Police Department detectives were able to identify the people responsible for organizing the events, which ultimately led to identifying Rivera. He was arrested on Thursday without incident by members of the Car Rally Task Force and troopers from the College Park Barrack.

Rivera is currently held without bond at the Upper Marlboro Detention Center.

Rivera’s arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Maryland Car Rally Task Force.
