The San Francisco 49ers earned some much-needed rest in Week 14, as they finally had their bye, giving the players and coaches and extra week to recover and prepare for the final four games of the season.
While the 49ers were off, the NFC standings were shook up a bit, which included San Francisco moving up and out of the seventh seed.
With the Green Bay Packers beating the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the Bears fell out of the top spot in the NFC North and out of the No. 1 seed in the conference, which now belongs to the Los Angeles Rams.
Chicago’s loss dropped them to 9-4 and in a tie with the 49ers, but San Francisco currently holds the tiebreaker over the Bears, so Kyle Shanahan’s squad will enter Week 15 as the sixth seed in the NFC.
The 49ers are just one game behind the Rams and Seattle Seahawks in the division, and with a better division record than both of them, San Francisco could move up as far as the first seed if a few games break their way.
