David Montgomery finished what he started on Saturday.

The Detroit Lions running back returned to Ames, Iowa, to collect his degree from Iowa State in a clip shared by the program’s football X account (formerly Twitter) on Saturday afternoon.

Montgomery, 27, attended Iowa State from 2016 to 2018 before being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. In three seasons with the Cyclones, Montgomery finished with 2,926 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns.

In an accompanying tweet by the Detroit Lions, Montgomery was congratulated by teammates, including quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs on his accomplishment.

Montgomery has rushed for 1,790 yards and 25 touchdowns in the last two seasons with the Lions. He has 5,399 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns in his six NFL seasons.
