De’Von Achane watched the second half of the Miami Dolphins‘ 34-10 win against the New York Jets from the sideline, but head coach Mike McDaniel says the star running back is itching to make his return to action against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“He’ll do treatment, and there may be some rest involved during the course of the week, but I know he’s highly motivated to play,” McDaniel said Monday. “We’re benefiting off an extra day before the game.”

Achane racked up 92 rushing yards and a touchdown on only seven carries against the Jets and recorded a 13-yard reception. He exited the game late in the second quarter after falling on the football and injuring his ribs.

“He was very clear during the game that if I needed him, he could go out there,” McDaniel said. “However, it was uncomfortable. It felt better today, but like I said we’ll potentially manage it just depending on how he feels each and every day.”

The Dolphins didn’t end up needing Achane. They turned to Jaylen Wright, who put together a career day with 107 rushing yards and his first career touchdown. Rookie Ollie Gordon also scored a touchdown late in the game, as Miami collectively racked up 239 rushing yards in the win.

Miami will presumably want follow a similar offensive formula against the Steelers in a Week 15 Monday Night Football contest. The Pittsburgh defense has allowed the fifth most yards per game this season and allowed over 200 rushing yards in each of the last two weeks.
