This year’s college football transfer portal will not officially open until January 2, 2026. It will end on January 16, and the spring window is officially over in a new change by the NCAA.
Still, with the regular season ending for a number of teams, and others declining invitations to bowl games, players are beginning to think about their next chapter in their playing careers.

Several prominent names have already made clear their intentions to enter the portal, and more should be coming as January gets closer and bowl games come to an end.
On Monday, another notable player revealed his intentions. Appalachian State quarterback AJ Swann is set to enter, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
“Appalachian State QB AJ Swann plans on entering the transfer portal, @Hayesfawcett3 reports. The 6-foot-2 QB started in 17 games in 2025. Will have one year of eligibility remaining.”

Swann had offers from programs such as Colorado, Maryland, Tulane, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech coming out of high school before committing to Maryland in March 2021.
He decommitted from Maryland in November 2021 and committed to Vanderbilt in December.
Swann spent two years at Vanderbilt, throwing for over 2,700 yards and 22 touchdowns combined in 2022 and 2023.

He then transferred to LSU, where he played in just two games with a total of four pass attempts. In 2025, he landed at App State, and he threw for 1,495 yards with 10 touchdowns while leading App State to a 5-7 record.

In his college career, he has thrown for 4,236 yards with 32 touchdowns.
App State is playing in the Birmingham Bowl against Georgia Southern after a flurry of rejections by other programs for bowl games.
But, Swann will once again be heading into the portal.
