Drake Maye gave his best pitch to MLB free agents to come to Boston this offseason.

“The way this city and the New England area embraces sports, and professional sports players, is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of,” the New England Patriots quarterback said during his weekly appearance on WEEI. “Watching them embrace me and embrace my teammates and some of the other athletes, and how beloved some of the famous guys — (David Ortiz) and some of the greats. (Jayson) Tatum right now, (David Pastrnak) with the Bruins. It’s been really cool for me. I think it’s the greatest sports city in the country.”

MLB Winter Meetings began Monday and the Red Sox have a lot of decisions to make that include whether they want to re-sign Alex Bregman, sign Pete Alonso, trade for Ketel Marte or reunite with Kyle Schwarber.

Maye is only in his second year with the Patriots, but has seen how quickly a fan base can get behind a player. The quarterback has heard “MVP!” chants at both Gillette Stadium and away games.

The 23-year-old also pointed to how passionate the fans are about the teams in New England year-round.

“It’s 24/7 caring about their teams and us, the Bruins, the Celtics, and the Red Sox,” Maye said. “They care a great deal about us. I think it’s the city of champions. That’s what they say. We try to prove it and the fans take it well.”
