The New York Jets could not build off last week’s win over the Atlanta Falcons as they suffered a brutal loss to the Miami Dolphins, 34-10.

The Jets (3-10) have been officially eliminated them from postseason play. They also retain the title for the longest active playoff drought among all sports as it is now 15 years since they made the postseason.

It was an ugly route to get there in just Week 14, specifically.

With that, here is Jets Wire’s grades from the Jets’ loss to the Dolphins:

Passing Offense: D

Tyrod Taylor only completed one pass for six yards before leaving the game with a groin injury. It’s unknown the severity of the injury, but he could miss the team’s Week 15 game against the Jaguars.

Brady Cook made his debut with the Jets down 21-0 late in the first quarter. He finished 14 for 30, 162 yards and two interceptions. He was sacked six times and was a victim of at least seven dropped passes, including one by John Metchie III that would have been an easy touchdown. He had some good moments as well as some bad moments, which is to be expected for a rookie.

Rushing Offense: C-

The injury to Taylor took the wind out of the team’s sail and the offense struggled all afternoon. Breece Hall wasn’t much of a factor, finishing with only 43 yards on 14 carries and the Jets gained only 65 yards on the ground. A tough day all around for the strength of the team’s offense against a Miami defense that ranked near the bottom of the league against the run.

Passing Defense: C

Tua Tagovailoa didn’t have to do much heavy lifting as he completed 13 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. It was another week of the Jets defense not forcing a turnover and not generating much of a pass rush. The fact this defense still does not have an interception is no longer embarrassing, it’s depressing.

Rushing Defense: F

You knew it would be a brutal afternoon for this unit when the third play of the game for Miami was De’von Achane rushing 39 yards down to the two-yard line, which led to a touchdown on the very next play. Achane had 92 yards on seven carries and averaged over 13 yards a run before leaving the game with an injury.

The Dolphins ran for 239 yards as a team and three touchdowns on the afternoon. The Jets defense has allowed five rushing touchdowns and close to 400 yards over their last two games. The honeymoon period for this unit without Quinnen Williams is over and this is a major area of concern that needs to be addressed in the offseason.

Special Team: A

It was another brilliant game for this unit as Isaiah Williams had the lone touchdown for the Jets on a 78-yard punt return in the first quarter. Nick Folk made his only field goal of the afternoon, and Austin McNamara had another strong game including a 72 yard punt. In another miserable season, this unit has been one of the major bright spots.

Coaching: F

Depending on what side of the fence you stand on, this was either a good day or a rough one as a Jets fan. For the side that dreams of having Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza as their future quarterback, then you’re happy for the loss. For the fan that wants to see the Jets win games, not so much.

The Jets do this all the time. They build some momentum with solid play and people start to think they could be turning the corner. And then, games like Sunday’s loss happen. The Jets were flat from the beginning, couldn’t stop the run, dropped a ridiculous number of passes and were completely humiliated by a division rival on their home field.

Glenn took full responsibility for the loss saying he didn’t have his team prepared. While the honesty is refreshing, it’s also unacceptable for the coaching staff to not have this team ready to play a game. If the Jets want to be taken seriously in the court of public opinion, they cannot afford to have another performance like this ever again.
