Things just didn’t go the Chicago Bears’ way against the Green Bay Packers.
Chicago lost 28-21 at Lambeau Field but had a chance to tie the game late. The Bears got inside the Packers’ 20-yard line and faced a pivotal decision on 4th-and-1. Head coach Ben Johnson decided it was better to pass than run.

He designed a bootleg play for Caleb Williams, but the quarterback threw an interception and gave the Packers the win.
Johnson joined “ESPN Chicago” and discussed his team’s most recent game. He revealed that it was “highly likely” that he would’ve gone for the two-point conversion and the win if Chicago had scored a touchdown on that play.
“It was highly likely, yeah.” Johnson said.
It’s no surprise that Johnson was considering going for two, given the last organization that he worked for.
Before joining the Bears as head coach this year, he served as the offensive coordinator on Dan Campbell’s staff at the Detroit Lions from 2022-24. Campbell has historically not been afraid to make risky decisions, such as consistently going for it on fourth down.

Campbell’s Lions have gone for it on fourth down 25 times this season, which surprisingly isn’t the most in the NFL. That title belongs to the New York Giants, who have gone for it 31 times in 2025.
Johnson hasn’t quite followed in Campbell’s footsteps this season, as Chicago has 20 fourth-down attempts, which rank 17th in the NFL, compared to Detroit ranking No. 6.
Since the Bears ultimately lost, we’ll never know what play Johnson would have drawn up for a potential game-winning two-point conversion.
Johnson is in his first season and has already put Chicago in contention for a playoff spot. The Bears are 9-4, with many key games left on the schedule.

The Los Angeles Rams are back at No. 1 after taking down the Arizona Cardinals 45-17.
