That production continued against the Vikings. Although the defense as a whole did not execute, Wagner was a standout in the Week 14 matchup, recording 16 tackles — his most since Week 4 of the 2023 season — and a sack. Wagner had 12 stops in the first half, which was the second most by Wagner in a single half in his career. It is the most he has had in a single half since Week 3 of the 2019 season.

“I wish I’ve coached him every year of my career,” Quinn said. “He’s very disciplined. He’s very structured in his routine of how he goes about it. He’s methodical.”

Wagner’s performance against the Vikings is how the 11-time All-Pro has played all season. Per Pro Football Focus, Wagner ranks fifth in run defense, fourth in pass rush and first in tackling among linebackers. He has a missed tackle rate of just 3.8% — the fourth lowest of his career.

Wagner has also been opportunistic in coverage, grabbing two interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. And quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels, who practices against him every day, know how difficult Wagner can be to prepare for.

“It is a chess match,” Daniels said during training camp. “He might make a call; I might make a call. Just understanding what he’s doing and what he’s trying to accomplish.”

While the season hasn’t unfolded the way the Commanders wanted, Wagner continues to show that he is one of the best at his position, both in terms of active players and NFL history. Despite his age, Wagner has been reliable during his entire time in Washington, and he has a chance to make even more history by the end of the season. He’s three tackles away from passing Donnie Edwards for fifth in all-time tackles and 14 away from passing Lavonte David for fourth.

So do Wagner a favor and vote him to another Pro Bowl. He’s more than worthy of consideration. And while you’re at it, make sure to show your support for Wagner on social media for being the Commanders’ club winner for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
