GLENDALE – Many fans love to be negatively hyperbolic when it comes to their favorite sport team, but for Arizona Cardinals fans, it might be true. The franchise is currently 3-10 and have been eliminated from the playoffs in the fastest time in 40 years, and taking into account preseason expectations, could be in the middle of the worst season in the team’s history.

The season from hell for Arizona:

For context, the franchise has been around since 1920, over 100 years of football, and 2025 might be the worst of them all. Arizona entered this season with a win total at 8.5, putting them in position to make a playoff push. Many experts and analysts were high on this Cardinals team ready for them to make the leap. What transpired has been anything but that.

After building up hope for the fans with a 2-0 start, Arizona proceeded to lose five straight games by one score, including a loss to the winless Tennessee Titans at home. Then after a slight detour with a win over the Dallas Cowboys, went right back to being embarrassed by division rivals. The defense allowed 40+ points to three straight NFC West opponents for the first time ever in a single season.

The Cardinals are 0-5 vs. division opponents, and is on track for their second winless season vs. NFC West teams in the head coach Jonathan Gannon era. The only positive for Gannon is that his team with three wins won’t be top 10 in worst records in franchise history via winning percentage.

However, if Arizona loses its last four games, it will have the most loss in the organization’s history. Gannon has the opportunity to be the coach of the Cardinals for the most and second most losses in the franchise’s tenure.

Despite the horrible record, Arizona isn’t even align for a top five pick. The franchise is currently pegged for the eighth pick in the 2026 NFL draft. The Cardinals are tied with four other teams at 3-10, but their strength of schedule (SOS) is well above the rest. Their final four games won’t help lower the SOS, meaning they need bad teams to win games, which is unlikely to happen.

Not even taking into account the injuries to fan favorites, like James Conner, or the nauseating Kyler Murray drama that has plagued the entire season, this is a season from hell. Owner Michael Bidwill has plenty to think about heading into this offseason, and how willingly he’ll be to make serious moves.

Fans will want Gannon and the entire coaching staff out, but will that fix the fundamental issues of the roster? Since Bidwill’s father became the sole owner in 1972, the Cardinals have had 11 season above a .500 winning percentage. Only 20.8% of seasons under Bill and Michael Bidwill have surpassed that criteria, with seven seasons reaching double digit wins.

The 2025 season won’t be the least amount of wins for the organization or the worst winning percentage for the franchise. However, it will likely be the most ashamed fans will be to call the Cardinals their team, and that is saying a lot with its history.
